The brief was to turn the kitchen into the main living space of the house, modernise the look and feel of the entire ground floor and create as much storage space while doing so. We opened up the back façade to the garden by installing floor to ceiling harmonica doors and further linking the living space to the outdoors by using the same tiles in two different finishes. We introduced a 90 cm deep bespoke wall that stores almost everything, hides the TV and incorporates a walk-in larder. We placed a quartz kitchen island and laid out the rest of the kitchen workspace around it. The worktop next to the stainless steel cooker continues to form a desk for the little lady of the house. This way all family members are included in the living space either by preparing a meal, enjoying an aperitif or doing homework.

Since there was no w.c. on the ground floor, instead of squeezing it underneath the staircase, we inserted it in the reception room and covered it with bookshelves. The spacious w.c. is now easily accessible from the hallway between the entrance and the kitchen. We linked up the staircase in the hallway with the storage wall in the living space and used the space below the stairs to create a mini mudroom complete with a bench and cushion to take off your wellies. To add warmth and to tie the entrance, hallway and the reception room together we laid down a reddish brown bespoke oak herringbone parquet. All the while keeping the walls white, except for the entrance hall which has been painted in a soft grey to accompany the lush wool pebble grey coloured carpet on the stairs. New wiring throughout the house and dimmable LED spotlights, wall sconces and pendants compliment the make over.
